Justin Jefferson Passes Randy Moss for Second on Vikings' Career Receptions List

Justin Jefferson moved past Randy Moss into sole possession of second place on the Minnesota Vikings' all-time receptions list during Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, according to PurplePTSD. Jefferson caught a 30-yard pass from quarterback Carson Wentz on Minnesota's first offensive possession, giving him 588 catches and passing Moss, with whom he had entered the game tied for second on the franchise list. Jefferson added two more receptions before the game ended, finishing with 590 career catches as a Viking.

Cris Carter remains the franchise leader with 1,004 receptions, according to PurplePTSD. Christopher Gates of The Daily Norseman, cited by PurplePTSD, noted that Jefferson reached his mark in 96 career games with the Vikings, compared to 113 games it took Moss to reach 587 receptions. Gates also said that, after the 30-yard catch, Jefferson stood 714 receiving yards behind Moss for second place on the team's career yardage list.

Jefferson's production dipped in 2025 amid instability at quarterback, per PurplePTSD, which reported he has played with ten different starting quarterbacks since entering the league in 2020, including three different starters in 2025 alone, among them J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer. The report noted Jefferson's numbers stayed strong in games started by Wentz, both late in 2025 and into the 2026 opener, when Wentz entered after starter Kyler Murray left the game following a hit on his eleventh snap. In that appearance, Jefferson totaled 92 yards and two touchdowns, per PurplePTSD. Poor weather limited big pass plays against the Bears in Week 2, and Jefferson finished that game with 55 receiving yards.

PurplePTSD also reported that Jefferson holds the highest average receiving yards per game in NFL history.

Whether Jefferson can catch Carter's franchise reception record before turning 30 in 2029 is less certain than it once looked, per PurplePTSD, which suggested last season's reduced usage pushed that timeline back even though it remains technically achievable.
