Justin Jefferson moved into a tie for second place on the Vikings' all-time receptions list during Minnesota's season opener against Green Bay, according to the team's official website. Jefferson's eighth catch of the game, a fourth-quarter touchdown, brought his career total to 587 receptions, matching Randy Moss for second in franchise history.
Jefferson finished the opener with a strong all-around performance, according to the Vikings. He caught five passes for 76 yards in the first half, including a 39-yard touchdown from Carson Wentz that gave Minnesota its first score of the 2026 season. Jefferson also converted a 2-point attempt that put the Vikings ahead 25-22 late in the game. His touchdown-tying catch with Moss came on a 9-yard diving grab in the fourth quarter, part of a stretch in which Minnesota scored 29 unanswered points to close out the win, 39-22.
Jefferson now sits behind only Cris Carter, who holds the franchise record with 1,004 career receptions. He will have his next chance to pass Moss outright when the Vikings travel to Chicago in Week 2, per the team.
The milestone continues a pattern established throughout Jefferson's career of surpassing Moss in various team and NFL records, according to the Vikings. As a rookie in 2020, Jefferson recorded seven 100-yard receiving games, breaking Moss' single-season rookie mark of four set in 1998. In 2021, his 3,016 receiving yards through two seasons set an NFL record, surpassing Moss and Odell Beckham Jr. He later set the league mark for receiving yards through three seasons as well, again passing both players, and reached 20 career 100-yard games in his third season, one more than Moss had at the same point.
In 2024, Jefferson became the fastest player in franchise history to reach 400 career catches, doing so in his 62nd game — 16 games faster than Moss. He also passed Moss for career 100-yard receiving games that season and has since extended his total to 37, per the team.
Moss, whose Vikings tenure included induction into the team's Ring of Honor in 2017 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, remains a central figure in franchise receiving history even as Jefferson continues closing in on Carter's record.
